Nice Move, Norwood School District (CO)

The article tells the story:
Book Praised By Laura Bush Banned From Colorado High School

What does this banning really accomplish? Christian Skyler Kelley (not sure if that's three names or a religion with two names, but either way) was exactly right. And not only does he want to read this book, but now I do too. If I ever get around to it, I'll be sure to let everyone know what is in it to deserve such a fate (being handed over to a parent for destruction? Is that a joke?) What do people hope to accomplish by banning books? I mean, really? They just gave this book a TON of publicity. You think banning it will keep if away from the eyes of teenagers? Ha. Only the fact that it's a book can do that. In fact, if you are worried about kids reading it, I suggest you make it required reading in their English class. At least for me, that was one way to make sure I didn't read a book in highschool.

And even beyond the logistics of trying to make people not read something, what can possibly be in this book that is so bad? It is on Laura Bush's top ten books list, yet it's too vulgar for highschoolers? Sometimes books are really great because they are about real life. And real life contains vulgar things. If you can't see that, you are in no position to be leading a school district.

Norwood, huh? That's no surprise...strange place up there in the mountains with all those ranchers--and then they got to compete with liberal Telluride. I'm just glad that CO once again is a shining light of ignorance.
