Huge Week for the Heels
So I friend at work looked at this blog and said "well it's pretty obviously you like basketball." I was going to make an effort to write more non-basketball posts, but that just lead to my not posting. Ha. Anyway, on to basketball:
This week the Heels got the two of the most impressive wins of the season (up there with the Kentucky win) in my book. We went on the road against two teams, each of whom had show the capability to beat good teams, each of whom needed a big win to get them off the NCAA bubble. Now, add to that that we played both games without our leading scorer (Rashad). The State game was a rivalry game (especially for them). Maryland shoot 64.7% from 3. Both teams made surges, but both times we held on. State never lead. Maryland did only momentarily.
Going into the dook game, we were the only team in div I who has not played a single game where the two teams finished within five points of each other. We got that close game at dook, but with the wrong result. Maryland is also important because it gives us that close win.
Raymond Felton - Is playing his way into the title of best point guard in the ACC, and possibly the country. Leads this team, and as cliche and overused as it may be to say so, he truly is a coach on the floor. He has his turnovers down, and his assists stay up, and now he is scoring as we need him to.
Sean May - Trying to become the first player since Antawn Jamison to average a double-double. His play all around tonight (along with Ray's) got this win over Maryland.
Jawad Williams - Just when everyone had given up on Jawad, he catches fire. Watching him set the high screen for Ray and then drift away to the three-point line, catch the pass, and nail the open three is a pretty play, and a play we should be running regularly until someone shows they can stop it.
Jackie, David, Melvin, Marvin, Reyshawn, and Quentin - Picking it up without Rashad. We are playing good team defense. We are rebounding. And we are running an offence. Props to the team for two great wins this week.
Final Thought: According to game refs, Sean was not fouled against State above...

well, you kind of stole my thunder....not that my readership (which is basically you and another person) will mind ;-)
this week was huge. Both wins were really impressive, in my mind the best of the season by far. That we won them in the way we won them is far more important than simply winning them, IMO
btw, offence and defence? You got some british in you or something?
sorry about that. if it makes you feel any better, you've stolen mine before...
and thanks for playing grammar police :-p
"Jackie Manuel you be doing it well son, everybody loves mr. raymond fel...ton"
Rell, the sad part is I CANNOT get that Manuel line out of my head...Best worst rap line ever?
